Name Brand Chips vs. Store Brand

Have you ever compared store brand and name brand chips next to each other? Well I did. Let me share the shocking results
(not really but it sure sounds good)

I bought two bags of Wavy potato chips. We ate half of each bag then evaluated...

Here is a photo of the Store Brand Wavy Chips. Ummm do you see wave? The Name Brand Wavy Chips now that is a wavy chip.

My results:
The Store Brand
  • Most of the bag was broken into small pieces
  • It was greasier
  • The taste was not as good but pretty close
  • It was only $1.75

The Name Brand

  • The chips stayed in big pieces
  • Not as greasy as the store brand
  • Classic taste
  • It was $3.00

The Verdict- Pay the extra $1.25 for chips that are dip worthy. I made ranch dip and the small remnants of chips made it very frustrating to get my dip. They just broke into the dip making crumbly mess

I think it's funny that the brand names are "hidden" in your photos. ha!!

There's a lot of things that I'll buy generic, but I haven't tested the chips out. Glad to see your review on this.

Another difference sometimes is the no-names will have transfats and the brand names won't. Transfats I think create a longer shelf life and name brand buyers are probably label readers.

I will buy store brand chips if they don't have trans fats but they usually have more brown ones in them and yes, are usually in smaller pieces. I almost always buy Kroger brand pretzels and tortilla chips...they are better than other store brands.

And just a little FYI...We toured the Mrs. Baird's Bakery in FW today and they were bagging their bread into Kroger bags. They supply most of the stores around here with their "store brand" bread. So, you can pay a little less and still take home a Mrs. Baird's loaf! (I know that's a little off topic, but I thought it was interesting.)
