I've been thinking about trying this for a while. I just needed a little push. We went to dinner with some friends last weekend and she told me how she spray painted her door knobs. She lives in an ultra swanky neighborhood so I figured I could give it a try with my frugalness.
I am loving it!!! I have started spraying my gold knobs with oil rubbed bronze spray paint. Let me share.
Here is the before my gold knobs. Not bad but doesn't go with all the new fixtures we've installed.
I took them off and put them into an old box. Don't forget to paint the screws.
Primer is a MUST! Prime and let dry for at least 3 - 4 hours. You have to be patient. Then spray with the final color. I used American Traditions Oil Rubbed Bronze from Lowe's.
Let it dry overnight. Then reattach and viola you have new knobs! Here is the new look. I will keep you posted on how it holds up. If it starts peeling I will take off and spend the $25 to replace this one.

Awesome .. LOVE it!
very nice!!
We have a 30 year old house with ugly interior doors. After replacing the windows in the next year, we will go for those nice 6 panel interior doors and nice hardware.
Keep us posted how it holds up. I like the look.

Cool! I never would have considered this, so I'll be looking forward to hearing if it holds up for you! What a great idea.
OMG! Love it!! That's my project for this weekend. Who would have ever thought to do this??
Great tip!
Oh! Super cute!!
What a great idea :) I haven't seen that before and I like the transformation!
Do update on how it holds up!!
I spray painted my yard sale chairs - I went with a blue rather than green. Pics are up on my blog now.
I wish I had thought of that before I replaced mine! Let us know how it holds up!
Oh I LOVE that! So much better than paying the $25!
Love them!
I have been wanting to do that too. It looks great!
Hi i just found your blog via Kelly's Show us Where you Live link and you have some great tips.
I was just curious how the door knobs are holding up? I have been considering doing this to replace the yucky brass knobs we have in our house. It would be way more economical to spray paint 25 door knobs then to purchase new ones.
so did the paint work i am looking at doing this also please post an update dieing to hear!!
Hi Jen. I also want to do this but am wondering how well it lasted for you. Yours turned out beautiful! Do you think you would do it again or did it not last? Any tips for doing a front door lock with a key whole? I would hate to ruin that.
Thanks for any advice,
Tracy :)
